Ireland (1): the journey

For those who are looking for pike in this post, I must disappoint you (but I promise lots of them in the upcoming posts), because like every fishing trip, you still have to get there first. And since we had a 17 hour journey, I can’t go around it. So here we go…

I don’t know about you, but I can hardly sleep the night before going on a trip. So when my alarm clock rang at 2 AM (that’s really the most horrible hour to get out of bed), it felt like I didn’t sleep at all. But I got up nevertheless to meet Koen and Phillipe to start our journey.

We had to meet the other tree members of our team in Calais (France) to catch the first train to take us under the Channel to England, the so called ‘Eurostar’.

A train that rides underneath the sea, is something you better not think about to much. But the reunion with the other guys was more than enough to forget all about it.

So after half an hour, we were ready to drive all the way to the other side of England.

And a long way it was. Especially since long pauses in between were out of the question, we had a boat to catch or we would be stranded for about six hours.

But we arrived in Holyhead nicely in time, to have a bite to eat,…

…and check out how much we remembered of the games we used to play when we were kids (some of us anyway).

After which we left England behind us to cross the Irish Sea.

After a sleepless night, most of us didn’t look very lively anymore (sorry Phillipe),

so after a while…

…our corner looked like this.

But taking a nap can do miracles, so we still had time for other things.

Like watching Koen trying his first (and last!) Guinness ever…

…although not all of us had that same problem.

But finally we arrived in Dublin (Ireland).

From where we drove an other two hours…

…with lots of glimpses of possible fishing places,…

…to arrive at our final destination, Ballinamore…

…to find our lovely home for the next week.

So the next posts will be all about pike (well, mostly anyway)…
