My personal favourite mess

As I was sitting behind my vise this evening, suddenly I realised that I didn’t post much lately. And then I started thinking about what I could post.
Yes, I went fishing every day this week (from an hour to three hours a day), and I caught pike every time (except this afternoon), but only a few each time, and the size of the fish wasn’t worth writing about either (don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed every second of it), but I never even considered posting it.

So I took a look around me and thought, why don’t I post this mess for a change. So here you have it, …my own personal sanctuary.

And at another angle.

I took a picture of the board in front of me as well, …but I like to keep a secret now and then, so I didn’t post that one (sorry!)…

Nice looking room Stefaan. I have close to the same amount of stuff but not nearly as well organized.

Thanks Jeff. At this point it still looks quite organized, but it can get a lot more messy than this, I can guarantee you that!
But after every ‘round’ of tying the same patter in different colours, or after an experimental moment (that’s when it can get really messy), I clean up and put everything at his place again.
This summer, I spent a couple of months in the Belgian Ardennes, with part of my tying material in my car, and part of it in my tent. So, after each tie, I just threw my material in the nearest box. But after a month or two, I can promise you that you just don’t find anything anymore! And that was just a part of all the stuff I have laying around here.
Besides, when I’m tying, I can get into some kind of a trance, and I hate it to be snatched out of it, just because I have to go search for something.

Hello David. I think that’s typical for fly-tiers. We’re all continuously looking for something new to use and test, and… sometimes we’re lucky, and sometimes we’re not (but in the meanwhile, we just keep filling boxes and cabinets).

Hello Erin, and thanks. Although I have to admit that I had to look in my dictionary to find the meaning of the verb “to ooze”, that’s new to my modest knowledge of the English language (but I like it!).

Hello Jay, and thanks for another enthusiastic comment, you’re always straight from the heart with little words (and I like that in people!).

Hello Djuza, what can I say,… you’re moving to a new home, so now’s the time to create your own cosy corner man! I can assure you that it will be a lot easier to forget those cold winter months in Finland!
